Agresión con disparos a Embajada de Cuba en los Estados Unidos

En horas de la madrugada de hoy jueves 30 de abril de 2020, un individuo desconocido disparó con un arma de fuego contra el edificio de la Embajada de Cuba en los Estados Unidos. No hubo daño para el personal de la misión, el cual se encuentra seguro y protegido, pero sí deterioros materiales para el edificio resultantes del impacto de los disparos.

El individuo, de cuya identidad el gobierno cubano no tiene información, fue detenido por las autoridades locales en el lugar de los hechos y se encuentra bajo custodia.

La misión diplomática de Cuba, ubicada en la ciudad de Washington D.C., cuenta con un sistema de protección y seguridad para enfrentar cualquier amenaza contra el personal y las instalaciones.

El gobierno de Cuba espera por la correspondiente investigación de las autoridades estadounidenses sobre la identidad y las motivaciones del autor de esta agresión, así como sobre las circunstancias que rodean al hecho.  El Departamento de Estado está al tanto de lo ocurrido.

Es una obligación de los Estados adoptar todas las medidas adecuadas para proteger los locales de una misión diplomática acreditada en su país contra toda intrusión o daño y evitar que se turbe la tranquilidad de la misión o se atente contra su dignidad.

Aggression with fire arm against the Embassy of Cuba in the United States

In the early hours of Thursday, 30April 2020, an unknown individual opened fire with an assault weapon against the building of the Embassy of Cuba in the United States.  There was no personal injury to the Mission staff, which is safe and protected, but there was material damage caused to the building resulting from the impact of the bullets.

The individual, about whose identity to the Cuban government has no information, was detained on site by local authorities and is under custody.

The diplomatic mission of Cuba, located in Washington D.C., has a protection and security systems to face threats against its staff and premises.

The government of Cuba is waiting for the correspondent investigation by U.S. authorities on the identity and motives of the individual who carried out this aggression and the circumstances surrounding the event.  The U.S. Department of State is aware of what happened.

It is the obligation of States to adopt appropriate steps to protect the premises of diplomatic missions accredited to their country against any intrusion or damage and to prevent any disturbance of the peace of the mission or impairment of its dignity.
